Arizona Has a Strong Case to be No. 1
At this point of the year, with the No. 1 team in the country losing 5 straight weeks, who would even want to be the top team in the country? Regardless of the record of No. 1 teams, it is still quite an honor to be considered the best team in the country and this upcoming week Arizona has a chance to take over that top spot.
The 20-2 Wildcats have only suffered two losses, both coming in conference play. They have only failed to beat two red hot teams in Oregon on the road and UCLA at home. Two losses and to the second and third best teams in the conference is not to bad to have on your resume.
Don’t forget, the Wildcats have 20 wins and they have come against some very good teams. Among the top teams they have beaten are Florida, who right now is the No. 2 team in the country and was No. 5 at the time Arizona defeated them. Also the Wildcats have beaten at the time No. 17 in the country, San Diego State and currently No. 8 in the country Miami (FL) by 19 points. The Hurricanes are also in the running for being the new No. 1 team.
Even at No. 7 currently, Arizona can make the jump to No. 1 because of the performance of the top 5 teams this week. Four of out of five of the top five have fallen. No. 4 Duke is the only team who has failed to lose this week, but they have already had their chances at No. 1. That doesn’t mean they won’t get another shot, but hey, give another team a shot.
Solomon Hill and Mark Lyons allow this team to compete with every team in the country and are two of the better players in the entire country. With Hill and Lyons playing well, Arizona can be the best team in the country and they have a strong case to get that No. 1 ranking this week.
