Miami Hurricanes Are New Celebrities In South Beach

By Sean Labar

South Beach has always been known for flashy cars, overpriced restaurants, and beautiful  million dollar condos. It has become the hot spot for actors, sports stars and celebrities of all kind.

But just 20 minutes away, in a place called Coral Gables, there is a college basketball team that has grabbed the national spotlight. Heck, even NBA stars Lebron James and Dwayne Wade were on their feet as the Miami Hurricanes stomped North Carolina 87-61 today.

The No. 8 ranked team in the nation looked like just that, they played with poise and precision while tying a school record with 15-three pointers.

Many people thought this was a trap game for the Hurricanes. They were due for a loss right? Wrong. They have extended their win streak to 11 games, and set a record for ACC victories in a season with eight games still to go.

Yes, this was a young and struggling Tarheels team. But that doesn’t take away from Miami’s victory. They are red hot heading into the month of March, and have transformed from sleeper to the team to beat in the NCAA.

Point Guard Shane Larkin has become the focal point of this squad, on both offense and defense. Today, he had 18 points and nine assists. His production is consistent game after game. Kenny Kadji has proven to be a solid option down low, this team has assembled the pieces to win down the stretch.

I don’t expect this run to stop anytime soon. These kids have bought into Jim Larranaga’s system and the entire country will witness a magical postseason run.
