No. 4 Duke Escapes A Close One Against Boston College

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 4 Duke Blue Devils just narrowly escaped a Boston College team that has a 10-13 record on the year, by the score of 62-61.

Mason Plumlee and Seth Curry came up big for the Blue Devils, like they have all season long, combining for 37 points in the game. No other Duke player scored in double-digits.

This game came just one game before the showdown with the North Carolina Tar Heels for Duke. Maybe the Blue Devils were looking a little too forward to the rivalry matchup and almost got caught in this trap game against the Eagles.

If Duke would have went down in this contest, it would have dropped three games back in the ACC standings. Miami currently is leading the conference with a perfect 10-0 record. These two teams already played one time this season, so Duke cannot afford to lose another game if they plan on winning the ACC regular season title.

North Carolina is probably aware of that and would love nothing more than to beat its rival on the road. Not to mention, the Tar Heels could use a huge victory to ensure that they make the NCAA tournament. At this point in the season, Duke is a lock to make the big dance, but the Tar Heels may still have some work left to do.

Boston College is 2-8 in the conference, which puts them in last place in the standings, so give the Eagles all of the credit in the world for taking Duke to the wire and only losing by one point.
