Elston Turner’s 37 Points Lead Texas A&M Aggies to a 69-67 Win Over the Ole Miss Rebels
The Ole Miss Rebels have been on a slide lately with losses against the last three good teams that they played. Once again, the Rebels were beaten by a good team as the Texas A&M Aggies, led by senior Elston Turner, ran riot on Ole Miss. The Rebels fought hard, as always, but once again proved susceptible to good zone defense and streaky players. Ole Miss had the same problem with Alex Oriakhi in the loss to Missouri.
Turner scored 37 points. You might remember him for his 40 point performance in a win against Kentucky earlier in the season. A player capable of scoring 37 points in an SEC game, especially against teams that are going to make it to the NCAA tournament, will make a few NBA draft boards. Turner’s performances are not only helping his team to get back into tournament discussion, but raising his draft stock exponentially.
The loss for Ole Miss will be devastating, but the Rebels should still make it into the NCAA tournament with ease. Texas A&M has to have a couple miracles in order to make it to the NCAA tournament, but with a player as good as Turner, they could go on a streak in the SEC tournament and make it. The Aggies continuously show that they are not just the “other team that came to the SEC with Missouri,” but a contender in the SEC.
The top teams in the SEC may already be set in stone, but once it’s time for the SEC tournament, Texas A&M will not be a team any coach wants to play.
