The Kentucky Wildcats were on such a roll going into last night’s game against the Florida Gators. Forget about Kentucky’s loss to the Gators, a bigger more unfortunate story came out of last night’s game. Freshman beast Nerlens Noel went down clinging to his left knee after chasing down a Gator player in the hopes of having one of those amazing blocks that he is known for.
The injury looked bad as you saw it live, and even Florida center Patric Young elaborated on it after the game: “His leg was wobbly, knee looked dislocated. It was gruesome. I don’t want to think about it.”
It was one of those situations where team alliances and fandom were thrown out the window. Nobody wants to see anyone get injured, especially to the possible extent that Noel could be hurt. Noel (10 points, 9.6 boards, 4.4 blocks per game), was expected to be a lottery pick and possibly go high as the number one overall selection in the upcoming NBA Draft. Now with the injury, only questions are remaining for the young man.
Below is a video of the injury and Noel being helped off by his teammates. The actual injury itself isn’t gruesome but you should be warned that it is pretty sad to watch:
In the short-term, this is certainly a blow to the Wildcats who have been playing much better. Kentucky without Noel is obviously a much worse team going forward. In the long-term, depending on the severity of the injury, this could really hurt Noel’s draft stock and cost him millions of dollars.
Love or hate Kentucky, you have to feel for the young man.
