Tray Woodall, Pittsburgh Looking to Avenge Earlier Season Loss to Marquette on Saturday
Earlier in the year, back on Jan. 12 to be specific, the Golden Eagles went on the road and got the best of Pittsburgh in overtime. The story immediately following the game however, was the injury that Woodall sustained after just four minutes of playing time.
Woodall collided with Marquette’s Derrick Wilson, injuring his head and being forced to leave the game. Woodall did not return as the Golden Eagles stole the road victory. Now credit Marquette of course for that win, but now Woodall and the Panthers are looking to exact revenge for themselves this Saturday when the two meet for a second time.
The two conference rivals will square off and ironically enough Woodall wasn’t the only point guard to leave the game early during that first match-up. Marquette guard Junior Cadougan also had to come out with a leg injury, but Wilson was able to step up nicely in his absence back in mid-January.
So, with an anticipated point guard match-up back in play for Saturday’s rematch, the impact of both could certainly be game-changing. For Woodall however, he is the Panthers’ leading scorer and although he will not wow anybody with prolific numbers, he is consistent too boot. In fact, Woodall has only scored more than 20 points twice this season, but his 10.9 ppg is tops on the team.
If Woodall can pace the Panthers and get Pittsburgh into a consistent offensive flow this Saturday, then a chance at revenge could be on the docket. However, Marquette is quickly becoming one of the more tougher venues in college basketball to get a win and after a loss to Georgetown on Monday, the Golden Eagles can’t afford back-to-back defeats with a regular season conference crown still in sight.
