Tomorrow, in-state rivals, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State face off in a game that will have major Big 12 championship implications. Oklahoma State is currently tied for first in the conference at 8-3 with both Kansas and Kansas State and the surging Sooners sit only one game behind at 7-4 in conference play.
No team in the conference has been hotter than Oklahoma State who have won six straight including a road win at Kansas. Oklahoma is also a little winning streak themselves that was also fueled with a key home win over that same Kansas team. That win gave the Sooners the confidence they needed to believe they can compete in this league and they have shown they aren’t going to lay down to any team.
It is going to be tough for the Sooners to walk into Stillwater and steal a win from Oklahoma State for a couple of reasons. First of all, Oklahoma is a very young team and with that brings inexperience. Inexperience plays a huge roll on the road especially in a hostile environment like Oklahoma State.
Also going on the road and winning is one of the most difficult things to do in college basketball especially when you are the underdog like Oklahoma is.
Oklahoma State has too much talent for Oklahoma to handle on the road. Marcus Smart is one of the most talented freshman in the country and will provide problems for any defense he goes against. Markel Brown is the other Oklahoma State guard and he has just been on fire. He is an outstanding three-point shooter and has been knock down of late with career games over Texas Tech and Kansas.
Oklahoma is only 3-4 on the road this year and they are going to need players to step up if they want to win especially their freshman point guard, Isaiah Cousins.
The Cowboys just have to much talent and are on to much of a roll to allow their rival to walk into their own gym and ruin their chances at a conference championship.
