The Maryland Terrapins are going to be without the services of Pe’Shon Howard for at least one game. Howard has been suspended from the team for violating unspecified team rules. The suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time as the Terps are set to play the Duke Blue Devils later today.

For Howard, this is just another bump in the road in an already tough season for the junior. Howard lost his starting job awhile back and found his minutes becoming increasingly diminished. However, with the benching came an improved Howard on the floor who is currently first on the team in assists(4.2 per game).

Head coach Mark Turgeon, while obviously not thrilled, wants this to be a teaching moment for his point guard and has put a learning lesson over winning at the moment:

“He’ll miss one game, maybe two, maybe three…I want him to learn from his decisions”

“(He is) not making very smart decisions. You’ve got team rules you’ve got to follow. We’ll sit him out this game.”

It looks like Howard will, at very least, miss the Duke game and possibly a few more. While Turgeon did not go into specifics, the violation must have been substantial enough considering this is going to be the last time the Terps match-up against Duke under the ACC moniker.

However, considering Howard’s minutes have been cut to 13 minutes per game over the last three games, I am not sure that the loss of Howard is as substantial as it would have been if he were still a main cog in the Maryland offensive wheel.
