Juvonte Reddic Is Key For VCU’s Success
The VCU Rams are back to the winning formula that gave them so much success in the early part of the season. They have their defensive scheme down to a science and have found an offensive powerhouse in forward Juvonte Reddic.
Last night, Reddic completely dominated the floor in a conference match-up against George Washington. He put up a solid 24 points and 11 rebounds, including an NBA style alley- oop dunk that absolutely rocked the Siegel Center.
Reddic is averaging 14.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, those are pretty impressive numbers.
VCU is heading into a critical stretch of play to close out the regular season. The Rams will see St. Louis and Xavier on the road before returning home to host Butler and Richmond. They need to stay consistent, and to me, Reddic has emerged as the X-factor.
This is a Shaka Smart coached team that lacks size. They rely largely on the quick, athletic play of their guards. At 6-9 and 235 pounds, Reddic is the one VCU player that can hang with the NCAA’s dominant centers.
If the Rams can find success down low, the outside will naturally open up for their sharpshooters. Last night, when Reddic put up career numbers, Troy Daniels, Melvin Johnson, Treveon Graham and Rob Brandenberg were all hot from behind the arc.
“It’s great,” said Daniels. “He’s a great player, It’s just fun to watch him and get him the ball. That’s our main focus going into the game.”
I believe that Reddic gives the Rams a chance to make a legitimate run in the NCAA tournament. Every great team has a dominant man in the paint, and VCU struck a gold mine with theirs.
