Do the Tennessee Volunteers Tournament Hopes Rest in the Hands of the Wichita State Shockers?

The first marquee win for the Tennessee Volunteers this season was agains the Wichita State Shockers, back when the Volunteers had high-expectations and believed that the SEC was still going to be a race between Florida, Kentucky, and themselves. That idea seems long gone as both Kentucky and Tennessee did not meet expectations. Tennessee looks like it needs a miracle to make it into the NCAA tournament, but the Shockers may provide part of that miracle.

Wichita State lost three conference games in a row in late January and early February that the Shockers should have won. Those losses have to sting the players of Wichita State, because without the slip-ups they would be four games ahead of Creighton in the conference rather than just one, with no competition in sight and only have to worry about who they might play in the first round of the tournament.

The rest of Wichita State’s schedule is fairly easy except for the game final game of the season against Creighton where the Missouri Valley Conference will probably be on the line. The Shockers have every opportunity to win out the season. – giving Tennessee a possibility of having a team ranked in the top 10 on its resume.

Any fan of the Volunteers needs to immediately become a fan of Wichita State, because although the Volunteers are playing great and destroyed Kentucky, they will need all the help they can get to make the NCAA tournament. Tennessee needs the teams it beat to start winning, otherwise the Volunteers may find themselves where they were last year; the whole season coming down to how well they succeed in the SEC tournament.
