Iowa Hawkeyes Roll Past The Minnesota Gophers
The Minnesota Gophers traveled to Iowa City, Iowa to play the Iowa Hawkeyes. Both of these teams needed this win especially the Hawkeyes. The game was in favor of the Gophers for a while, as the team had a 16-point lead in the first half, but the Hawkeyes, thanks in part to Aaron White, had a massive comeback and even led at the break.
This is the Hawkeyes third straight win in the Big 10. They have rattled off three consecutive Big Ten victories for the first time in six years.
This game was a dramatic turn around in a short time, with the Hawkeyes taking the lead at the break and pushing the margin father apart. They ended up winning by 21 points. Minnesota coach Tubby Smith said, “This is the most disappointing loss as a I have ever had.”
This game started out as a Gopher rout, but became a Hawkeye blowout. The Gophers are still having problems holding on to the basketball. This afternoon, they ended up turning the ball over 17 times. Trevor Mbakwe has vaseline hands, and they seem they have forgotten how to score. They looked clueless on offense and didn’t execute the plays correctly. They have struggled from the free throw line this season, and they didn’t have that killer instinct to close out the game.
The Gophers have now lost three of four and now are tied with Iowa in the Big 10 standings. They keep slipping in the Big 10 standings, as they have lost seven of their last 10 contests. They need to get back to basic fundamentals and play as a team if they hope to make it to the big dance. March is just around the corner, and for the Gophers they need to win now. Their next chance to pick up that important win is Wednesday night at Ohio State.
