Providence College Guard Bryce Cotton Deserves More Attention
The Big East Conference is one of the best basketball conferences in the country, no one can argue against that if you follow college basketball. If you follow Big East basketball, here’s a quick question for you, who leads the Big East in scoring?
The answer maybe surprise you since he doesn’t play for Syracuse, Louisville or any other of the big name schools. He plays for the Providence College Friars and his name is Bryce Cotton. Cotton is scoring 20.4 points per game, which is two points more per game over the second highest scorer in the league and yet we don’t hear much about Cotton, why?
Is it because he plays for the Friars? Well don’t look now but PC has won four games in a row, including two wins over top 25 opponents and the Friars now sit on the edge of possibly gaining a bye for the Big East tournament. Cotton is a big part of the reason for the Friars success in their second year of rebuilding the program under head coach Ed Cooley. He made a game winning three pointer against Villanova a few weeks ago and he sealed a win over Cincinnati a few games ago with his free throw shooting, so there should be more talk about Cotton and how good he’s been for the Friars. He held the team together early in the season when the Friars were without many of their best players and he also leads the Big East in three pointers made.
In fact, when people start talking about the player of the year in the Big East, Cotton’s name should be one of the first few names on that list. PC’s record is surprisingly better than most thought it would be a great conference and if the Friars manage to finish with an over .500 record in the conference, he deserves to be thought of as one of the top players in the Big East.
Bryce Cotton is having a great season for Providence College and he should be recognized for his accomplishments.
