Before Monday’s Associated Press college basketball Top 25 Poll came out, many talked about the Oklahoma State Cowboys taking over the top-ranked spot of any team in the Big 12 conference. The Cowboys (19-5, 9-3) are just a half game behind the Kansas State Wildcats, following K-State’s win over West Virginia Monday night, but have won seven-straight games and have not lost a game since January 21 at Baylor.

Both Kansas State and Kansas have lost three games apiece over that stretch. However, OK-State now ranks 14th in the nation, behind No. 13 K-State and No. 9 Kansas in both AP and USA Today Coaches polls.

Not only have the Cowboys not lost a game in a stretch that both their higher-ranked conference foes have lost three in, but OK-State has been dominating their Big 12 opponents, beating them by 9.3 points per game, during their winning streak as well. While they do fall a half-game behind the Wildcats in the conference standings, the Cowboys have a chance to prove their worth, at this point in the season, with a big matchup vs. Kansas on Wednesday.

A win over Kansas can do a lot of things for this talented OK-State team. Beating the Jayhawks would add a victory against a Top 10-ranked opponent to the Cowboys’ resume this season and would also tie them with Kansas State for a share of first place in the Big 12 standings as well. Playing at home, in the Gallagher-Iba Arena, Oklahoma State will have a great chance to accomplish those two goals.

During Big 12 conference play this season, Oklahoma State is a perfect 6-0 at home.
