Saint Louis Gets Regular-Season Sweep of No.15 Butler

Brian Spurlock – US Presswire

The Saint Louis Billikens had elite ball control to beat the No.15 Butler Bulldogs, 65-61 on Friday night.

The Billikens tied a season-low with just five turnovers to the Bulldogs’ 15, which was huge for SLU, who fell short in almost every statistical category. With how quick the Billikens are, they only managed four fast-break points, while the Bulldogs didn’t manage any. Yet, SLU had a better focus on scoring off Butler miscues. The Billikens held a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers.

SLU normally wins games with high-percentage buckets off hustle and speed but the Billikens had complete control of the post, holding a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint. Mike McCall Jr. and Dwayne Evans combined for 29 points around the basket.

The biggest threat of the Bulldogs’ offense is the potent 3-point shooting. After halftime Butler only managed a pair of makes from deep, forcing them to go inside, which obviously wasn’t working much in their favor.

Speaking of which, the effort of SLU’s Rob Loe can’t be overlooked. The Saint Louis big man finished with just seven points on the night, but pulled down six rebounds, and anchored the Billikens in one of their biggest wins of the season.

Butler freshman Kellen Dunham had a team-high 14 points off the bench but the rest of the Bulldogs were relatively held in-check, compared to what the explosive Butler offense can do on any given night.
