Georgetown’s Otto Porter Jr. Continues to Build His Legacy
The Georgetown Hoyas got a huge road win in thrilling fashion to keep a first place lead in the hotly contested Big East standings.
However, if not for Otto Porter Jr., the Hoyas would not be in first place. Porter scored 21 of his 22 points in the second half and overtime to steal the back for Georgetown.
After having a chance to put the game away on the foul line in regulation, the Hoyas Markel Starks missed the front end of a one-and-one with the Hoyas up by three and UConn’s Omar Calhoun drained a three from the left wing with 2.2 seconds remaing to send the game to the first overtime.
Porter Jr. had a chance to win the game for Georgetown in the first overtime, missed a turnaround jumper.
However, the superstar did not shy away from the spotlight and with his team down seven points with just over two minutes to go in the second overtime session, Porter went coast-to-coast with 9.5 seconds remaining, and converted a tough one handed layup to seal the win.
Head Coach John Thompson III commented that Porter “makes winning plays. Coming down at the end, it was, ‘Let’s get a stop and then let’s get it to Otto and go.’ ”
And that’s just what happened.
Again, as Porter continues to build his Player of the Year Resume in the Big East and also for some national awards, he knows that he is capable of going to Syracuse and dropping 33 points and carrying the team or making clutch plays when the stakes are the highest and willing his team to victory.
Either way in the Big East’s last real season, Porter is a man amongst boys.
And his legacy just keeps growing and will continue to reach new heights with the Big East Tournament and NCAA Tournament looming.
