Saturday’s game for the Miami Hurricanes had a ton of ramifications no matter if the team won or lost to the Duke Blue Devils. With a win, Miami would likely lock up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament while a loss would probably land the Hurricanes with a No. 3 seed. While the seeding may not make a ton of difference, Miami ended up losing to Duke 79-76 to hurt their chances at a top seed.
Jim Larranaga has done an unbelievable job with this Miami team, taking them from a 20-13 team last season to 22-5 now after Saturday’s loss. When you can have players like Kenny Kadji and Shane Larkin on the court leading you to victories all the time, it makes Larranaga’s job look very easy. I really believe that Miami needs to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament though before the NCAA Tournament arrives. This is a team that has never been to this point before and needs to keep their confidence up going into the postseason.
We have seen Larranaga take a team to the Final Four before and with the talent on this Miami team, no one would be shocked if it happens again. It is games like this though that really test the Hurricanes mentally and losing on the road against a talented Duke team may help refocus Miami. The Hurricanes are going to be a very tough out in the tournament and if they do end up with a top seed, I think Miami will find their way all the way to the Elite Eight. This may not be a Cinderella story, but Larranaga is doing something special with the Hurricanes this year.
