With just two weeks to go until Selection Sunday, the North Carolina State Wolfpack sit right on the bubble with a 20-8 record and just three regular season games left before the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. North Carolina State has done enough it would appear to be a solid lock to make the tournament, but these last three games before the conference tournament are going to prove very important.
The Wolfpack have won four of their last five, which is a positive for the committee but lost five of their previous seven before this current string. That sort of thing doesn’t play well if a team is on the bubble. N.C. State has to hit the road for two of these final three games but all three teams are below them in the ACC standings which would lead me to believe that they will win at least two of those games. If N.C. State can get to the ACC tournament with a 22-9 record, they are probably going to get in if they weren’t already.
If the Wolfpack lose two of those games though and then go out in the first round of the conference tournament, I don’t think they will be going on to the NCAA Tournament. I understand that the ACC is one of the top conferences out there, but a 21-11 record may not be enough to overcome some powerful mid-major school or another team that might be on a run heading into Selection Sunday. These next three games almost become must-win if anyone still believes they are on the bubble.
