Duke is still Duke, and well, apparently Ryan Kelly hasn’t missed a beat while sitting out with an injury.
Kelly returned Saturday afternoon for the Blue Devils’ game against Miami, and that was bad news for a Hurricanes team that became way too over-rated as the season rolled along. Kelly torched the Hurricanes for 36 points, drilling seven 3-pointers along the way, and the Blue Devils knocked off the Hurricanes 79-76 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
For Kelly, it was all about playing hard and getting back to being a player who has the ability to take over a game on any given night.
“I just knew I was going to play my hardest,” Kelly said in a post-game press conference. ”Honestly though, more than anything, it was just going to be whether I could hold up with my breathing. I haven’t played any games in a long time, and being in a game is a lot different from being in practice or anything you can do. But I think I held up all right.”
Yeah, I would say Kelly held up just fine. While Duke won’t be able to win a conference title, Kelly’s performance gives Duke a shot of much-needed momentum heading into the madness of March.
With Kelly back, Duke is a dangerous team. He gives the Blue Devils another scoring option, and another player for teams to worry about defending.
Kelly is back and that is good news for the Blue Devils. On Saturday night, it was bad news for the Hurricanes.
