Back on Jan. 24, the Richmond Spiders stunned VCU with a 12-point overtime victory at home, taking round one of two battles between the pair of inner-city rivals.

With the Rams making the move to the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, the rivalry now has an even more exciting edge. On Wednesday night, the two will square off once again, as the Rams look to exact revenge on Richmond and even the season series while attempting to keep pace with a red-hot Saint Louis squad atop the conference standings.

It’s been a sub-par year for the Spiders at 17-12 overall and while their lone chance at qualifying for the NCAA Tournament likely resides in winning the conference tournament, winning on the road at VCU will be even harder than anticipated. The Rams know what’s at stake and as the home team, they will certainly be looking for a little payback.

It wasn’t just a loss for VCU at the time, the upset victory by Richmond snapped a 13-game winning streak for the Rams. 5-foot-8 guard Kendall Anthony went off for 26 points as the Rams simply had no answer on the defensive end in the overtime frame. Expect VCU head coach Shaka Smart to certainly be ready to make some adjustments with Anthony after what happened the first time around. In addition, VCU knows that their primary focus however, must be on containing Darien Brothers, who chipped in with 18 points in himself.

While the Rams are not on a lengthy winning streak like the first time around, VCU still enters this contest on Wednesday having won seven of their past eight games overall.

VCU and Richmond will tip-off at 8:00pm (EST) on Wednesday.
