Win and In: Can Villanova Cement its Resume With a Third Top 10 Victory?

Back in late January, the Villanova Wildcats burst onto the scene by upsetting both Louisville and Syracuse in the same week.

The back-to-back home games propelled the Wildcats into the at-large discussion and despite some bumps since then, Villanova remains in the hunt for a berth within the NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday night, as part of their final game of the regular season, the Wildcats will be looking for yet another statement victory at home.

Georgetown, who has quickly emerged as the league’s top threat over the course of the past few weeks, is looking like the team to beat heading into the conference tournament. With the Hoyas in town on Wednesday however, Villanova is looking to snap Georgetown’s momentum while cementing their own resume in the process.

Entering this week’s contest, the Wildcats face the daunting task of avoiding a third consecutive loss. Yes, Villanova has now dropped back-to-back games in crunch time and a third would certainly put them on the chopping block if they cannot win at least a game or two within the Big East Tournament.

However, once again Villanova is the host team and ironically enough, that simple fact was a huge factor in the Wildcats’ previous wins over top ten opponents. Should Villanova be able to secure a win over Georgetown on Wednesday night, the Wildcats may very well be looking at a spot within the Big Dance that has their name on it.

Tip-off between Villanova and Georgetown is scheduled for 7:00pm (EST).
