Aside from the Big South Conference, the only other league that began its conference tournament on Tuesday afternoon was that of the Horizon League.

Three opening round games highlighted the league’s initial action and with it came no unexpected victories. All three of the higher seeds in the opening round advanced to the next round. Both Valparaiso and Detroit, the conference’s two top dogs, still await the winners of the next round, given their qualification for the double-bye.

As for Tuesday’s round however, Youngstown State got things started by narrowly escaping Loyola (IL) by a final score of 62-60. The Penguins’ victory moves them into the next round where they will face the third-seeded Wright State Raiders.

In other opening round action of the unique nine-team bracket, Illinois-Chicago used a 14-point halftime lead to their advantage, building on things even more so after the break. The Flames went on to rout Cleveland State by a final score of 82-59.

With the UIC victory, the Flames then had to play the waiting game to see who they would face in the next round. Well, Illinois-Chicago will square off against UW-Green Bay in the next round, as the Phoenix used a stout defensive effort to knock off ninth-seeded UW-Milwaukee.

The next round of the bracket will be played on Friday, Mar.8, take a look at the times and match-ups below:

Mar. 8, 7:00pm (EST): Youngstown State vs. Wright State

Mar. 8, 8:30pm (EST): Illinois-Chicago vs. UW-Milwaukee

**Double-byes** : Valparaiso and Detroit await winners of above games in semifinal round.
