UNLV Rebels Riding Five-Game Winning Streak in Postseason
Dave Rice currently has his UNLV Rebels playing some of their best basketball of the season. After stumbling around a little bit in the beginning of last month, the Rebels are currently riding a five-game winning streak with only one game remaining before they are off to play in the MWC Tournament.
Their regular season game left is against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Fresno State is one of those teams that gave the Rebels a hard time in the early parts of February. In fact, UNLV lost by nine and looked pretty bad in their road outing. However, not only is this a chance to exact revenge, but it’s an opportunity for the Rebels to ride their winning streak into the postseason.
Considering the top-tier of teams in the MWC are all more than solid teams, it would be hard for any to claim the conference tournament title. While a NCAA Tournament run’s success is not directly tied to the success a team had in the conference tournament, seeding will be at risk for the Rebels down the stretch.
UNLV has everything you would need to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Somehow, magically, they are going widely unnoticed. Being an unknown is always an advantage heading into the postseason. They also have Anthony Bennett, one of the most underrated freshmen in the entire nation. He alone can help carry this team to the Elite Eight. Then there is Rice, who has done a great job making UNLV relevant again.
Momentum can be the Rebels’ best friend if they continue riding their hot-hand through the remainder of the season the the conference tournament.
