The Michigan State Spartans stayed alive for a shot at sharing the Big Ten regular season title with tonight’s 58-43 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Breslin Center. The Spartans swept the Badgers on the year and secured a first round bye in next week’s Big Ten Tournament with the win.

Now Michigan State needs to win against Northwestern on Sunday for Senior Day in the season finale and get some help from their nemesis the Michigan Wolverines in beating the Indiana Hoosiers and they will tie for the regular season championship.

The Spartans won’t be the top seed in the tourney though as they were swept by the Hoosiers and don’t hold the tiebreaker over Michigan. Indiana clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament in Chicago with Michigan State’s win tonight, so everyone else is playing for the second seed.

Tonight’s win was also huge for momentum for the Spartans as they’ve lost three straight games entering tonight and to be honest looked like their confidence was going down. All three losses were by a combined 13 points against the top three teams in the conference so with having so much hope entering those games they didn’t do themselves any good.

Beating a good Wisconsin team with so much on the line was big for the confidence, as Tom Izzo is very good this time of year in motivating his players and getting the most out of them. He proved that once again after coming in on a low and getting max effort out of his team in the huge victory tonight.
