Under head coach Tom Izzo, Michigan State has known it’s share of success in the magical month of March. They are a regular favorite to run deep into the NCAA Tournament year in and year out. It is simply what Michigan State does when it comes to the tourney.

At the moment, though, they find themselves simply focusing on winning the next game.

The Spartans find themselves in an unusual position, the losers of three straight and in the midst of an uncharacteristic losing streak with just two games left in their season. They were thought to be a possible National Champion just a week ago, and are now being projected to get bounced early.

Fortunately for fans of the Green & White, the Spartans have been gifted with a well-timed lull in the schedule, and have now played just one game in the last 10 days. It could prove to be exactly what the team needed as they push further into March.

Third-year guard Keith Appling, who had clearly been suffering from fatigue, told the media on Wednesday that he felt “faster” in his last game, and the feeling should be shared among the rest of his teammates. The fresh legs will come in useful when the No. 22 Wisconsin Badgers come into the Breslin Center on Thursday.

Michigan State won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, and the Spartans will be for this game to be the end of their losing streak, and the start of their mid-March run.
