Ohio Valley Conference Tournament: Morehead State, SEMO Advance to Quarterfinal Round
The Ohio Valley Conference Tournament began on Wednesday night with some opening round action featuring the league’s bottom four squads.
The double-bye format squares off the 5th and 8th seeds in the tournament in the opening round with the winner advancing to play fourth-seeded Tennessee State. On the other side of the bracket, the 6th and 7th seeded squads met on Wednesday night with the right to play Eastern Kentucky.
Quarterfinal action will take place on Thursday, Mar. 7 with the winners of each of those games advancing to play the league’s top two teams in the semis. The conference’s top representatives this season are none other than Belmont and Murray State.
Well, in the 5/8 match-up between UT-Martin and Morehead State, the Eagles advanced through to the quarterfinal round with a 73-66 victory over the Skyhawks. Morehead State, who is coached bySean Woods, advances to play Tennessee State on Thursday night.
In the other opening round contest, sixth-seeded Southeast Missouri State got the best of Eastern Illinois, winning the contest by a final score of 78-68.Tyler Stone led the way with 24 points for the Redhawks, as SEMO used a 13-point halftime advantage at their disposal. Southeast Missouri State presses forward in the bracket and will face third-seeded Eastern Kentucky on Thursday.
