Bubble Watch: Maryland Terrapins In or Out?

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

As it stands, the Maryland Terrapins are going to have to play in the little dance, otherwise known as the NIT.

Maryland can still play its way into the NCAA tournament, but it will need a deep run in the ACC tournament to do so. The Terrapins had a great non-conference schedule only losing one game to Kentucky, which came in the first game of the season. However, who did Maryland beat in its out-of-conference schedule?

Looking at the resume, this team beat a bunch of mid-majors and Northwestern. Everyone please hold their applause.

The Terps did not have the best conference season in the world and stand at 8-9 in the ACC right now. This team lost to Florida State (twice), Boston College and Georgia Tech. However, the only reason why we are even considering Maryland as a tournament team is because of the wins against North Carolina State and Duke. Let’s be honest, those were two pretty good wins though.

However, Maryland could have easily gotten off of the bubble with a win over North Carolina in its last game. To bad it lost that contest at home. The Terps will have another chance in the last regular season game against Virginia, but they will have to earn that game on the road.

At 20-10, Maryland has not done enough on the season to earn a spot in the big dance. So, it will have to do what most bubble teams have to do at this time of the year and really earn it in its conference tournament.
