March Madness: Massachusetts Minutemen Need Some Madness to Dance

The Massachusetts Minutemen need a miracle to make the NCAA tournament and that miracle is winning the Atlantic 10 tournament.

However, that is going to be a really hard feat considering how good the A 10 has been all season long. This conference consists of VCU, Saint Louis, La Salle, Butler, Temple and Xavier. All six of those teams have a chance to dance this season, but VCU, Butler and Saint Louis are all locks at this point.

UMass has beaten Xavier and La Salle out of those teams and that is it. It is no wonder why this team is not even being considered as a bubble team. However, the Minutemen are still 18-10 on the year with a, 8-7 conference record, which isn’t too shabby.

We could say that this team could win its last game of the regular season against Rhode Island–this team is 8-20 on the season–and then have a good outing in the Atlantic 10 tournament, but that will not even be close to enough for this team to punch a ticket. Making it to the championship game would turn a lot of heads, but that would also not be enough.

The bottom line: Massachusetts needs to win its conference tournament to make the big dance. If it does not do that, then it will at least have a decent seed in the NIT, where it made it all of the way to the semifinals just a year ago. However, this is March Madness and all, so maybe we will see a little March and then some Madness out of the Minutemen.
