The Saint Louis Billikens have had an unbelievable season especially after all of the tragedy that went on early in the season with their previous coach, Rick Majerus. The Billikens are 23-6 overall and currently ranked No. 16 in the country, but they are not the sixteenth best team in the country.
Saint Louis plays in a much improved Atlantic 10 conference and has beaten Butler twice and VCU in their only meeting. The two toughest teams in their conference they are 3-0 against and both of those teams will also be in the NCAA tournament.
The problem Saint Louis will have come tournament time will be their lack of experience against power conference schools. Saint Louis will be around a five or six seed depending on how they finish the year and that will mean they will most likely be matched up with a bubble team from a power six conference.
Quality wins over New Mexico, Butler, and VCU are nice to have, but the lack of wins over power six schools is going to hurt the Billikens big time. They have already lost to Washington, who isn’t even a tournament team. They also lost to Kansas at home, which is an acceptable loss and they beat Texas A&M, but that is not a quality victory.
Saint Louis wants to be a Cinderella story come tournament time, but I just don’t see it happening. They have surprised many people with the year they are having, but their success in the regular season won’t translate into success in the postseason.
