The Iowa Hawkeyes needed to protect their home court down the final stretch of this regular season and that’s exactly what they have done.
Following a win over Illinois earlier this week, the Hawkeyes dispatched Nebraska by a final score of 74-60 on Saturday afternoon, moving to 20-11 overall on the season and 9-9 within the Big Ten Conference. Iowa ended the regular season by winning three of their final four games.
On Saturday, Aaron White led the way by scoring 19 points as the Hawkeyes exacted revenge on the Cornhuskers for an earlier loss back in February. Now albeit the wins down the stretch for Iowa are not all that convincing, the Hawkeyes have taken care of business for the most part considering their schedule.
With that being said however, there is still work to be done.
Iowa must now gear up for a potential run within the Big Ten Tournament and to feel comfortable enough with their resume, may just have to win two or maybe even three games within the conference field. It’s a lot easier said than done of course, but at least there are options for Iowa.
The good news for the Hawkeyes and their victory is the fact that if Illinois cannot upset Ohio State on the road on Sunday, then Iowa will earn the No. 6 within the tournament.
It will be interesting to see how Iowa will fare next week in Chicago, but with a number of bubble teams jostling for some of the field’s final few spots, the Hawkeyes have at least positioned themselves to attempt to work their way into the Big Dance.
