Florida State’s Michael Snaer Is Worthy of A Nickname

Phil Sears USA TODAY Sports

Oops, he did it again! Michael Snaer hit another game-winning buzzer beater. This time, his heroism took place when the Florida State Seminoles played the Virginia Cavaliers on this past Thursday night. Snaer finished the game with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists. Although he was the hero of the game, Snaer was not the top performer for Florida State. Okaro White was their best performer during this game, amassing 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Despite making six of 14 field goals in this game, Snaer hit the field goal that counted most, a runner amidst heavy traffic with a few seconds left in the game.

Hitting game-winning shots is the making of a great player. Snaer has hit four game-winners this season. During the past two seasons, he has made a total of six game-winning shots. Due to this phenomenon, it is only suiting that Snaer has a nickname. In the NBA, the Los Angeles ClippersChauncey Billups is also known as “Mr. Big Shot.” Former Los Angeles Lakers‘ forward, James Worthy had the nickname, “Big Game James.” Former Duke Blue Devils‘ center, Shelden Williams, was known as “The Landlord.” Snaer deserves “Mr. Big Shot.” After all, Billups will be re-tiring in the next few years. Other monikers that fit him are “Mr. Clutch,” “Super Snaer” and “Big Mike.” I’ll throw in “Snaer Drum,” just because his last name rhymes with “snare.”

Snaer’s collegiate career is coming to a close. Although it is highly unlikely that he will win an NCAA championship, he will go down as one of the most memorable players in college basketball history. This young man deserves a great deal of respect for his moxy and swagger. In addition to hitting game-winning shots, he is a team player, a rare combination in sports today.
