Kentucky Wildcats At Least Deserve Chance To Play In NCAA Tournament

I’m not sure how much damage Kentucky will do in the NCAA tournament, but the Wildcats at least deserve a chance to defend their national championship.

It was a good day for the Wildcats, who stunned No. 11 Florida 61-57 in Lexington on Saturday.

Look, in no way is Kentucky as good as it was a year ago. Not even close. But the Wildcats are certainly capable of getting hot at the right time and making some sort of run in the NCAA tourney.

And they did it against a team few gave them a chance to beat with the weight of the world on its shoulders.

“They swam like heck,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said in a post-game press conference as he noted his team had to sink or swim against the Gators. “‘In the last seven minutes, when it was in doubt, they swam like heck. When you’re going to drown, you want to die, don’t swim. If you want to live, the life raft is over there, you’ve got to swim to it.”

It’s amazing how well a team can play when it has a sense of urgency, and the Wildcats’ urgency was at an all-time high.

Calipari does know how to coach and it’s hard to bet against him when it comes to finding a way to get the most out of his team in pressure situations.

As I said before, I don’t know if Kentucky is good enough to be successful in the NCAA tournament, but it at least deserves a shot to play in it.
