The Alabama Crimson Tide needed a win on Saturday afternoon in the worst way possible.
A bubble squad to the fullest extent, the Crimson Tide could not afford to lose at home to Georgia.
Well, with the final seconds of the contest winding down, starting point guard Trevor Releford saved the day and for the time being, potentially Alabama’s season.
Releford let it fly from beyond half court and sent Tuscaloosa into a frenzy when his last second heave swished through the net.
Take a look at the final segment from Alabama’s victory over Georgia below:
Releford finished the game with a team-high 19 points on Saturday, but none were bigger than that game-winning buzzer beater. With the win, the Crimson Tide finished out the regular season at 20-12 overall and 12-6 within the SEC.
Now, just because Releford and the Crimson Tide took home a victory on Saturday afternoon, it does not mean that Alabama is sitting pretty with just over a week remaining before Selection Sunday. Alabama still has plenty of work to do and with a number of conference rivals also sitting on the bubble, they could find themselves in a dog fight for all the marbles next week.
The Crimson Tide will await their first round match-up, but with the win Alabama has locked up a first round bye within the SEC Tournament. This was aided by Tennessee‘s victory over Missouri, which also took place on Saturday afternoon.
