Memphis Tigers A Possible Cinderella in the NCAA Tournament

The Memphis Tigers may not be your typical mid-major Cinderella, but if they did make a deep run in this year’s NCAA tournament, they would certainly be considered a Cinderella. Don’t mind the fact that they are ranked as high as No. 20 at the moment.

Memphis has not gotten a whole lot of press this year, but the Tigers are a very good team that can go deep in this year’s dance.

The Tigers may have not taken care of business against VCU, Minnesota, Louisville or Xavier this year, losing all four of those games, but Memphis competed in all of them. Not to mention, the Tigers did beat Tennessee at Tennessee this year.

Memphis has cruised through their conference, winning every single game (16-0).

Highlights on the season were victories against Tennessee, Ohio, Harvard and Southern Miss (twice). Those may not be the biggest wins in the world, but they have helped the Tigers compile a record of 27-4 on the season.

Memphis has only lost one game in its last 22 games. I don’t care what conference you are in, that is very impressive. That one loss was actually recent against Xavier, however, that game was played on the road for the Tigers and they only lost by two points.

This may not be one of the John Calipari coached Memphis teams of the past, but it is a very good one that can really go on a deep Cinderella run this year. The Tigers are ranked in both of the major polls, but they are still being predicted to be around a No. 8 seed. That is where ESPN Joe Lunardi has them right now.
