Mike and Mike Gave Kansas Jayhawks ‘Kiss of Death’
As the famous quote goes, “those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.” That is exactly what happened to the Jayhawks and Head Coach Bill Self.
Let’s look at the facts.
Coach Self came on the popular ESPN radio talk show, Mike and Mike in the Morning, hosted by Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, on Feb 8, right after his team lost to the TCU Horned Frogs, which was as big an upset as there was this season in college basketball. Self came on a spoke about his now infamous “Topeka YMCA” quote after the game and discussed where his team was at during their two game slide.
A day later, the Jayhawks went to Norman, Ok. and lost to the Oklahoma Sooners by a score of 72-66. It was the last lost until yesterday against Baylor.
However, Coach Self also went on Mike and Mike this past Friday, March 8th and spoke about his teams seven game winning streak and how he thought that there were more good teams this season than maybe ever before, but just no great teams.
And the rest they say is history.
If anyone listens to the popular ESPN morning radio show, everyone knows that Greenberg is notorious for picking a team and then they will proceed to go out and lose or worse be humiliated. They call it the “Greeny K.O.D.”, Kiss of Death, that is. Greenberg has even started his own twitter hashtag (#GreenyKOD).
The Kansas loss was their worse in seven years. Seven years. Thank you Mr. Greenberg.
So the loss is easy to explain. It was in the cards. The stars were aligned. It was the Greeny K.O.D. that did the Jayhawks in. Kansas never had a chance.
A piece of advice to Coach Self and the Jayhawks. Stay away from the Mike and Mike in the Morning Radio Show because no team is powerful enough to overcome the Greeny Kiss of Death.
