When you think of the North Carolina State Wolfpack, you think of either Lorenzo Brown or C.J. Leslie, and rightfully so.
Well, on Tuesday morning, the ACC announced it’s regular season conference awards and surely enough both Brown and Leslie were tabbed to specific all-conference squads. Brown was named a second team All-ACC performer, while Leslie was labeled amongst the third team.
As for senior forward and double-double machine Richard Howell, well he was named as a first team All-ACC, a true testament to the season that he has had. Howell is second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 12.7 points per game. In addition to his scoring numbers however, Howell has been a beast on the boards, tallying 10.6 per contest.
Howell has always presented the Wolfpack with a consistent low post scoring threat, but most importantly its his impact and game-changing effort on the boards. His numbers this season, both of which marked career highs in their respected categories, show the impact that he has had for N.C. State this season.
All the talk is centered around Brown and Leslie, which isn’t a bad thing, but there’s no doubt that Howell deserves just as much of the credit. The ACC took notice of his efforts and his first team nomination is only proof to that.
The Wolfpack began the season ranked within the top ten, but have failed to uphold those expectations. As N.C. State prepares to make a run within the ACC Tournament, the Wolfpack are hoping this March can still be even better than last.
