Gonzaga Bulldogs Deserve the Top Overall Seed

There have been a lot of people including myself who have doubted the fact that the Gonzaga Bulldogs are the No. 1 team in the country. Gonzaga went out and won the West Coast Conference title on Monday night and will end up with one of the top seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. It is a well-deserved honor for a team that came bursting onto the national stage a decade ago, but who knows how far this team can go in the postseason.

I really think it is going to come down to who else is in the same regional with the Bulldogs. If Gonzaga can end up in a West Regional with some weaker teams, there is no reason why Gonzaga can’t get to the Elite Eight or even the Final Four. Kelly Olynyk is a quality big man along with Elias Harris as both average in double figures. Those twin towers make life very difficult on any team who tries to come into the paint. I love the small schools making runs from the lower seeds to make those Cinderella runs.

Gonzaga is not Cinderella anymore because of Harris and Olynyk. These are not the Gonzaga teams with Adam Morrison or back in the days of John Stockton. This is a really good team that may not be getting the respect of a lot of people and I will include myself in that. I really didn’t think Gonzaga played a schedule that would allow them to be a No. 1 seed, but nothing is going to stop them from doing that now. It is going to be a fun next couple weeks in the Pacific Northwest for the Zags.
