2013 NCAA Tournament Profile: Patriot League Champion Bucknell Bison
Conference: Patriot League
How They Qualified: Patriot League Tournament Champions
Bucknell star forward Mike Muscala has led the way for the Bison all season long. By way of the Patriot League Tournament championship game, Bucknell pressed forward with their second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three years. Muscala scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the team’s tournament clinching victory over Lafayette.
The Bison have won the Patriot League regular season title three consecutive years in a row, but after losing in the conference tournament a season ago and being forced to the play in the NIT, Bucknell knew this year was going to be theirs. This appearance marks the school’s sixth trip to the Big Dance in school history.
What You Need to Know:
Leading Scorer: Mike Muscala (19.0 ppg)
Leading Rebounder: Mike Muscala (11.2 rpg)
Leading Passer: Mike Muscala (2.4 apg)
Bad Losses: Penn State, Princeton
Good Wins: Purdue, LaSalle, Lehigh, Lafayette (twice)
As you can tell from the aforementioned stats, Muscala leads the team in all three major categories. Sure, he has others around him, but whoever their first round opponent is, they better prepare to slow down this double-double machine or the Bison will have a shot at an upset.
It’s no surprise that this team won 28 games this season. They are talented and just continued to win throughout the regular season and Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell enters the Big Dance having won seven consecutive games and 12 of their last 13 overall.
The Bucknell Bison are dancing!
