Hot Streak Key For Tennessee Volunteers To Make NCAA Tournament

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

There are going to be several teams that are going to sweat out this week before the pairings are announced for the NCAA Tournament. There is one team, though, that has proved over the last month that they are deserving of a berth — the Tennessee Volunteers.

Tennessee has won eight of their last nine, and sit with a 19-11 record going into the SEC Tournament this weekend. Tennessee does have some work to do to make sure they are in, however.

Tennessee is going to need to win twice at the SEC tournament to get to 21 wins for the season. That said, I don’t think they need to get to the title game because of their last ten games. The tournament committee loves teams that are hot at the end of the season, and Tennessee would fit that profile.

It is obvious that the Volunteers need to win their first game of the conference tournament, though. Tennessee won’t make it in with a 19-12 even with their hot finish.

Tennessee is going to need to get a huge weekend out of Jordan McRae, who is averaging over 16 points a game in his junior year for the Volunteers. McRae is going to find himself becoming a pro prospect after this season concludes but until then, he needs to help lead Tennessee to at least a win or two this weekend.

There is going to be a ton of talk between now and Sunday about which teams should or shouldn’t make the tournament, but Tennessee has their fate in their own hands if they can just win twice.
