Two San Diego State Aztecs Players Earn All-MWC Honors
Getting lost in all the madness in this month of March is the conference awards making their rounds. Starting last week, conferences were handing out freshman of the year, coach of the year, and all-team honors as if they were going out of style. The Mountain West Conference is no different than any of their league brethren.
For the San Diego State Aztecs, two of their own earned some All-MWC team honors. Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley both got named by coaches to get on two different All-MWC teams. Tapley got named to the third All-MWC while Franklin got the nod for the first.
Franklin has been an awesome man-beast all year long. He was third in the league in scoring (17 ppg), second in rebounding (9.4) and second in steals (1.5). Not only did he earn the All-MWC team award, but Franklin has a legitimate shot to make the All-American team as well.
Tapley was awarded his second All-MWC team honor in as many years. The senior averaged over 13 points and nearly three assists per game while over turning the ball over 1.3 times an outing.
For the Aztecs as a team, they open up their MWC Tournament schedule against a hungry Boise State Broncos squad. Any success they plan on having against Boise State and in the tournament as a whole, will depend highly on these two players bringing leadership and their skills to each game.
While definitely on the right side of the bubble, San Diego State can surely guarantee their spot in the NCAA Tournament with one more victory.
The two will match-up tonight (or tomorrow depending on your preference of coast) at midnight.
