Bubble Watch: Maryland Terrapins Can Play Their Way Into the Big Dance

JD Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

With a victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels today, the Maryland Terrapins will likely be dancing.

Maryland came into the ACC tournament on the bubble and they are doing everything they can to convince the tournament committee for a pair of dancing shoes. The recent win over the Duke Blue Devils was huge. Not to mention, this was the second time that the Terps have beaten Duke this season. To go even further, that loss for the Blue Devils was the first loss they have been handed while Ryan Kelly was in the lineup.

If the Terrapins can knock off the Tar Heels today, they will likely earn an at-large bid. Plus, making the ACC tournament championship game is always pretty cool. Now, if Maryland did win its next two games, then it would, of course, earn that auto bid.

Maryland has lost to North Carolina twice this season, so it will not be easy for the Terps. I am sure Maryland is a believer in thinking that you don’t beat a team three times in one season.

The Terrapins have won two games in the ACC tourney so far, so entering this game, their NCAA tournament hopes aren’t looking too bad, especially with many bubble teams going down early in their own conference tournaments.

Beat the Tar Heels and then the Terps will have beaten all of the elite North Carolina schools this year, which is definitely something to brag about, especially when all three of those teams will most likely be dancing themselves.
