2013 NCAA Tournament Profile: Colorado State Rams
Conference: Mountain West Conference
How They Qualified: At-Large Berth
This is probably the best team that the Colorado State Rams have ever had. The 24 wins on the season speaks for itself. The Rams may have not won the regular season title, but they still finished in second place. Not to mention, New Mexico is a great team, which is the team that won both the Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles.
The Rams have only made the NCAA Tournament nine times, but this year they have a chance to really do something special. This is the second year in a row that Colorado State is dancing and you can bet that this team will improve on its all-time record (3-10) in the tournament.
What You Need to Know:
Leading Scorer: Colton Iverson (14.4 ppg)
Leading Rebounder: Colton Iverson (9.6 rpg)
Leading Passer: Dorian Green (3.9 apg)
Bad Losses: Illinois-Chicago
The Rams are one of the best rebounding teams in the country, averaging 40.4 rebounds per game, which is good enough for fourth in the nation. This team starts five seniors, so it is now or never. Colton Iverson joining the team this year has been a huge blessing because he has arguably been the best player on the team, however, Dorian Green can certainly make a case for that.
Green is really important to this team–he is the point guard and all–and Colorado State will need him to be the leader on the floor, knock down threes and hit clutch shots. Those are just some of the things that Green has done all season long.
You can expect that Pierce Hornung will be on the floor a time or two in the dance. No literally because he goes after every lose ball and risks his body on just about every single play.
The Colorado State Rams are dancing!
