2013 NCAA Tournament Profile: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders
Conference: Sun Belt Conference
How They Qualified: At-Large Berth
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders had a really good season. Yet, there was a lot of bubble talk going into Selection Sunday because they failed to win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Well, what has a lot of thumbs and is going dancing in the NCAA Tournament from a one-bid conference? You got that right, the Blue Raiders can thank a strong national strength of schedule and the media for pushing their case to the point of nausea, as they made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1989.
What You Need to Know:
Leading Scorer: Marcos Knight (12.5 ppg)
Leading Rebounder: Marcos Knight (5.8 rpg)
Leading Passer: Bruce Massey (3.3 apg)
Bad Losses: None
Good Wins: Ole Miss, UCF
Middle Tennessee is either the best little team from a small conference ever (Since they earned an at-large) or they have tricked everyone and their mother into believing they are. This team could put up points in bunches when they have to and they do it in a fairly distributed way. However, only Marcos Knight scores in double-figures regularly — so if he goes cold, that does leave them vulnerable when in need of a primary threat.
Filling out your brackets for this team is as tricky as accepting a free taco from an iffy convenient store open at 3 am. Be way, be cautious, but ride this team as far as your stinking heart desires.
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are dancing!
