2013 NCAA Tournament Profile: Pac-12 Champion Oregon Ducks
Conference: Pac-12 Conference
How They Qualified: Pac-12 Conference Tournament Champions
The Pac-12 Conference has undergone a nice resurgence this season after a dismal past couple of years. The Oregon Ducks have been apart of that revival for much of the conference schedule and this was after much of the preseason hype circled around some of their conference rivals.
Yes, the Ducks have gone above and beyond some of their early expectations and that’s a testament to the job that head coach Dana Altman has done this season. This year’s trip to the NCAA Tournament marks the program’s 11th Big Dance appearance all-time and their first since 2008. Oregon enters the field having not won a game within the NCAA Tournament since 2007.
What You Need to Know:
Leading Scorer: E.J. Singler (11.5 ppg)
Leading Rebounder: Arsalan Kazemi (9.6 rpg)
Leading Passer: Dominic Artis (3.5 apg)
Bad Losses: UTEP, Utah
Good Wins: UNLV, Arizona, UCLA
The Ducks have continuously been paced by a well-balanced attack this season. Oregon features a lineup that includes a number of players that are capable of scoring the basketball. This relieves a lot of the pressure from Altman and their rotation because they do lack the true, superstar aspect.
The key to Oregon’s NCAA Tournament success however, likely hinges upon their point guard production. Oregon struggled when they lost freshman guard Dominic Artis, but he has returned from injury and is hoping to lead the Ducks’ on a run within the Big Dance.
The Oregon Ducks are dancing!
