Record: 24-10

RPI: 57

BPI: 74

Conference: Western Athletic Conference

How They Qualified: WAC Tournament Champions

Playing in a one-bid league means that the conference tournament is everything. This was not lost on the New Mexico State Aggies, as they won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament and have earned a pair of NCAA Tournament dancing slippers. As for the regular season, the Aggies finished two games behind in the race for a regular season conference title.

New Mexico State is coached by Marvin Menzies. This will be his third appearance in the big dance as a member of the Aggies.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Daniel Mullings (14.0 ppg)

Leading Rebounder: Bandja Sy (7.3 rpg)

Leading Passer: Tyrone Watson (3.0 apg)

Bad Losses: Niagara, Texas-Arlington

Good Wins: Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech

New Mexico State wasn’t the best team in their small conference. That alone should heed as a warning not to expect them to go dancing deep into the month of March. However, they do have an interesting player to look out for. Daniel Mullings is a sophomore who can sometimes put points up in bunches (Season high is 26 in one game). It is guys like Mullings that make the month of March become so mad.

Nope, this is not going to be one of the mid-major darlings in this NCAA Tournament. They have a serious issues of depth coming off the bench and are just going to be out-matched talent wise in the tourney.

Although, they do have a puncher’s chance — as they can put up points with the best of them.

The New Mexico State Aggies are dancing!
