With realignment set to take place next season, college basketball fans could not have asked for a final Big East showdown between Louisville and Syracuse on Saturday night.

After trailing 35-22 at halftime, all signs pointed to the Cardinals falling short of their second-straight Big East tournament title, but they used a miraculous comeback in the second half to overcome a 16-point deficit at one point by going on a 24-3 run before closing out the game with a 78-61 win. Peyton Siva had another strong performance for Louisville as he scored 11 points to go along with eight assists.

Of course, by winning the Big East tournament title, the main question on the back of basketball fan’s minds now–will the Cardinals earn the No. 1 overall seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament next week?

There’s no question the Big East is one of the top conferences in college basketball and compared to some of the other teams playing in conference tournaments over the last couple of days–it’s safe to say Louisville has made a strong case for themselves considering teams like Duke and Indiana fell short of their conference title games. And as for Gonzaga–the West Coast Conference doesn’t even come close to the Big East from a competitive perspective.

Rick Pitino’s teams always seem to take their game to a completely different level this time of year and all signs point to this Louisville squad making a run at this year’s Final Four. If they can overcome a large deficit in the Big East title game like they did against Syracuse on Saturday, then this team is capable of doing anything over the next couple of weeks–so don’t sleep on the Cardinals.
