Louisville Cardinals Deserved The No. 1 Overall Seed In The NCAA Tournament
A week ago, the Louisville Cardinals were not even widely considered the best team in the Big East, let alone all of college basketball. But, following a triumphant run through the final Big East conference tournament as we know it, the Cardinals rapidly became the nation’s favorite to win the national title.
The national media and fans aren’t wrong, Louisville is deserving of the top overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Just look at that incredible Big East Tourney run.
Head coach Rick Pitino and company went 3-0 against three opponents, Villanova, Notre Dame and Syracuse, that will all be appearing in the NCAA Tournament. But, not only did they win all three games, they won by an average of 16.0 points per game. That’s a staggering statistic.
Look at the way they finished the regular season. The Cardinals won 10 of their last 11 contests with their only loss coming by three points in five overtimes to Notre Dame on the road. This team is playing their best basketball, behind Russ Smith and Peyton Siva, at the most important time of the year.
Further, they rank 3rd in official RPI, 6th in Strength of Schedule and they’re 10-4 against teams in the Top 50 of RPI.
All of the above definitely adds up to a college basketball team capable of winning six games and earning a National Championship. If you’re filling out a bracket — and if you’re reading this, you probably are — be smart and at least put the Cards in your Final Four.
