NIT Tournament: No. 1 Seeded Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 8 Seeded Robert Morris Colonials

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

For those basketball fans who want to watch good teams that deserved to make the NCAA tournament, the No. 1 seeded Kentucky Wildcats take on the No. 8 seeded Robert Morris Colonials in the first round of the NIT tournament.

Kentucky is coming off one of the most disappointing seasons any team has had in the history of the NCAA. The Wildcats had the number one recruiting class, again, but fell short early in the season and continued to lose in an extremely tough SEC. Kentucky has an opportunity to salvage something out of their season with a deep run in the NIT. They also may be part of an SEC-NIT Final Four match-up between themselves and the Tennessee Volunteers if they can advance.

The Colonials won the Northeastern conference easily, but a late season loss to Mount Saint Mary’s led to LIU-Brooklyn sealing the conference’s automatic NCAA tournament berth. Robert Morris believes they can win the NIT after the disappointment of missing out on the NCAA tournament, but their seeding is working against them. The Colonials will play hard, but it will not be enough to upset the Wildcats.

If the Colonials had any other team except Kentucky, they might stand a chance. However, the Wildcats are out for revenge after a disappointing season, and Robert Morris has no chance to beat the Wildcats. An SEC team will win the NIT, and no team in the country has been more disappointing than Kentucky. John Calipari’s team will be ready and win by a very large margin behind Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, and Ryan Harrow.
