If you are looking for a potential upset then you might not have to look any further than this second round match-up from the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Sixth seeded Arizona is not getting a lot of hype heading into their contest against No. 11 Belmont, but that’s because the Bruins are seemingly the Cinderella favorite of this opening weekend.
That being said, there is still a game to be played.
Belmont can score the basketball, ranking 15th in the country in points per game. A senior-led trio of scorers has keyed the Bruins’ success this season and they look to carry that success over into their final postseason opportunity as a unit. As for the Wildcats however, this is a team that has a great balance between youth and veteran leaders. Arizona can quiet a lot of criticism by simply winning this contest as the seeding would indicate that they are expected to.
What to Watch For
Arizona should have a huge advantage on the boards and they need to take care of business down low with second chance point opportunities. The veterans on this Wildcats’ squad, most notably Solomon Hill and Mark Lyons, need to show up. They hold they key to Arizona’s chance of making a postseason run.
Keep an eye on Belmont’s scoring duo of Ian Clark and Kerron Johnson. These guards have all the makings of putting up some big-time scoring numbers, so if Arizona isn’t ready for what they have to offer, this upset will go down as so many are anticipating.
Belmont has more than enough of an opportunity to win this ball game, but let’s just say that Arizona has the talent level to silence the critics.
Arizona 74 Belmont 69
