2013 NCAA Tournament Preview: No. 6 Butler vs. No. 3 Marquette

Don’t ask me how, but the No. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles were able to escape the No. 14 Davidson Wildcats. Two three-pointers by Jamil Wilson had something to do with it, along with a game-winning layup by none other than Vander Blue. Marquette will take on the No. 6 Butler Bulldogs in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Well, this is going to be one heck of a matchup, so I hope everyone is ready. These two teams met earlier in the year, with Butler coming up on top.

What to Watch For

This one is a no brainer: Butler’s Rotnei Clarke and Marquette’s Vander Blue. Both players have had great years and both teams rely on them.

Clarke had 17 points in the second round and surprisingly only shot 2-8 from behind the arc. If you have not seen this kid play, then you have really been missing out. Clarke is one of the best three-point shooters in the nation and he will make people pay. In fact, he sunk a buzzer-beater against Marquette earlier in the year, so the Golden Eagles have definitely not forgotten about it.

Blue also led his team in scoring in the second round with 16 points. Both of these players could go off at any given time and will be very exciting to watch in the next round.

Butler is a great team, but it is not beating Marquette twice in the same season. Both teams do not score a whole lot of points, so turnovers could be huge in this one, but that is kind of the case in every game. Although it would be great to see some more Butler and Clarke magic, lightning does not strike twice.

Marquette 67 Butler 60
