2013 NCAA Tournament: Gonzaga Bulldogs the First No. 1 Seed to Lose
The Gonzaga Bulldogs just got beat, which means they are the first No. 1 seed to lose in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Keep in mind that this was only the round of 32.
Many people predicted that the Bulldogs would be the first No. 1 seed to go down because of the lack of competition in their conference. Well, those people were right.
Gonzaga did not have a good tournament whatsoever–obviously–almost losing in the second round to a No. 16 seed, which would have made history. However, college basketball fans and Cinderella lovers will just have to deal with the ‘Zags going down in the third round to the No. 9 Wichita State Shockers.
This was and up and down game, which saw both teams leading comfortably, but it was the Shockers who hit three after three down the stretch, which helped them pull away at the end of the game.
Wichita State will be playing the winner of the game between the No. 12 Ole Miss rebels and the No. 13 La Salle Explores, so one thing is for sure and that is the fact that we will see a Cinderella team in the Elite Eight this year.
Whether if it will be La Salle, Ole Miss or Wichita State is the big question that we will have to wait and see. With this huge victory by the Shockers, the West Region is wide open and there is plenty of double digit seeds left.
So much for being a No. 1. Who will be the next top seed to go down in the Big Dance? Only time will tell.
